Glossary of Video Terms

Crossing – A word said when someone intentionally crosses in front of the camera’s view. It allows anyone watching the scene on a video monitor to know that someone is crossing who is not part of the scene.

Company Move – Moving set locations. Involves all crew and talent.

Intentional – When said loudly on set, this lets the lighting director and others know that a light is being turned off intentionally, not on accident or by a light bulb burning out.

Squeezer – Dimmer switch.

Sticks – A tripod.

Stinger – An extension cord.

Stretcher – Power strip.

Strike – To remove an item or all the items from the set.

Striking – Intentionally turning on a light on set.

Video Village – Where the monitor for viewing the camera image is set up.
